Brad Huck hails from Maui, Hawaii. His process, which involves heavily layering the surface of a painting and then working backward to remove elements to ''create a history that I am able to work back into,'' he says. Eugene, Oregon resident Claire Flint says, ''My art is my therapy, my church, my friend, and sometimes my demon.'' Born Santa Barbara, California, Claire began her training as a painter at the age of seven. ''I enjoy following my intuition,'' she says, ''exploring unfamiliar territory, and that moment just after experiencing the terror and resistance of something new, when I can fall into a state of complete trust. That moment right there. That's the sweet spot. That's how I meditate.'' An accomplished illustrator and graphic designer, she has explored watercolor, still-life, impressionistic, figurative oil painting, three-dimensional mixed-media, photography, and now, encaustic media.
Prolific local artist Holly Kilpatrick is Rogue Gallery's Education Director. She will be following up her stint in Bohemia's recent mini-show with all new encaustic works.
