Phyllis Trowbridge

Ashland artist Phyllis Trowbridge says her paintings and drawings “each represent an attempt to express and convey my deep connection with the natural world and the feelings it evokes in me.”  “Those feelings,” she says, “are grounded in a passion and reverence for the land and a love of the outdoors.”  While painting she tries to capture what she calls “the sense of the day”—the sounds, the wind, the temperature all play a part in the creation of her work.  Unpredictable weather and light “can drive me crazy,” she says, “but I embrace them because they change the way I think...opening me up to new ideas and unexpected directions.”  Her recognizable landscapes capture the mood of Southern Oregon
